MACAO, April 22 (Xinhua) -- A 21-year-old local college student suspected
of selling counterfeit sports shoes online was recently arrested by the Customs
of Macao Special Administrative Region (SAR), the Macao Daily Times reported on
Wednesday.
The daily quoted the Customs Intellectual Property Office as saying that
the arrest came after a report was received saying someone was selling sports
shoes on a website which were replicas of famous brands. The suspect was
arrested when meeting a buyer to complete a transaction three days ago, the
Customs said.
The suspect allegedly purchased the counterfeit shoes at about 100 yuan
(14.7 U.S. dollars) a pair from the Chinese mainland and then sold them at a
double price in Macao, through which he earned about 2,000 patacas (253 dollars)
a month, according to the daily.
Following the exposure of a number of students or young people having
involved in selling counterfeit products, the Customs has urged the public to
make a report if they hold any information.
