HK aviation chief calls for Asia Pacific regional security ties

Hong Kong, April 23 (Xinhua) -- Director-General of Civil Aviation of Hong Kong Norman Lo on Thursday called for harmony and cooperation among the Asia Pacific region's aviation administrations to meet the new challenges to security systems.

Addressing the opening session of the Civil Aviation Department's two-day regional security seminar on the development of an Asia Pacific Regional Work Program, Lo said the formation of a regional cooperative program will promote the development of sustainable aviation security practices to meet future challenges.

"Only through the concerted efforts of each and every member state threats can be effectively managed, and a secure and safe air transport system be maintained," Lo said.

The department also hosted the 6th Steering Committee Meeting of the International Civil Aviation Organization Cooperative Aviation Security Program - Asia Pacific over the last two days.

Members agreed on the work plan for the coming year and discussed the establishment of an aviation security standing structure to facilitate information sharing, co-operation and co-ordination in aviation security matters, and endorsed the continuation of the program to 2014.
