China quarantines another 7 flu-affected flight passengers

BEIJING, May 9 (Xinhua) -- Seven passengers from a flu-infected flight were put under quarantine in China on Saturday, the Chinese Health Ministry said.

Three Japanese passengers boarding the U.S. airlines NW025, which flew from Canada to Japan via the United States on Friday, had been diagnosed with influenza A/H1N1, the ministry said, citing a Saturday notification from the World Health Organization China office.

Of the co-passengers, some had left Japan, including seven who arrived in Chinese cities of Shanghai and Beijing Friday night.

The ministry said it then immediately told relevant local health departments to track down the seven passengers.

So far they had all been located and put under medical observation, the ministry said in a statement.

Previously, China had quarantined 166 passengers who were on board flight AM098 (Mexico City-Shanghai) on April 30 after a Mexican, one of the travelers, was later confirmed in Hong Kong to have influenza A/H1N1.

Among them, 38 Mexican passengers and crew were flown back to Mexico on Monday. And the remaining 128 passengers, including a few Mexican nationals, continued their week-long quarantine across China till Thursday, when they were released after showing no flu-like symptoms or tested negative to the virus.

As of 8 a.m. Saturday, no confirmed or suspected A/H1N1 cases had been reported on the Chinese mainland, the ministry said.

Worldwide, 2,500 confirmed cases, including 46 fatalities, had been reported in 25 countries and regions by then.

Final quarantined passenger from Mexico flight released

BEIJING, May 7 (Xinhua) -- The last passenger from a flu-affected Mexican airline flight has been released from quarantine after being tested negative to influenza A/H1N1 despite running an earlier fever, the health ministry said Thursday night.

The ministry said the Yunnan Province health department told it at 7:30 p.m., that all the affected passengers who remain on the Chinese mainland, 128 in total, have been released from quarantine. Full story

China alters treatment plan of A/H1N1 influenza

BEIJING, May 9 (Xinhua) -- China's health authorities on Saturday altered the diagnosis and treatment plan for A/H1N1 influenza, which has claimed at least 44 lives worldwide.

The revised version, posted on the website of the Ministry of Health, states that people with the virus are the sources of infection, ruling out sick pigs or animals carrying the virus as stated in the previous version. Full story

Experts say China's flu prevention in line with int'l health rules

BEIJING, May 9 (Xinhua) -- China's epidemic prevention measures conformed to the international health regulations and the country's own laws, the Health Ministry said Saturday, citing experts' views.

An expert committee under China's joint A/H1N1 prevention and control mechanism, after a careful analysis of the global epidemic situation, concluded the prevention and control polices and quarantine measures the country had adopted were in accordance with the International Health Regulations 2005, the ministry said in a statement.
