TAIPEI, April 25 (Xinhua) -- Part of a mainland tourist group, which lost
two members to a crane crash accident here Friday, left for home Saturday
according to their set schedule.
Fifteen tourists of the 25-person group chose to return home Saturday
afternoon, said Syu Gao-cing, secretary-general of Taiwan's Tourism Business
Association.
Still immersed in immense sorrow, they declined the interview request from
reporters at the airport, local TV footage showed.
Syu said a dozen family members of the victims would arrive in Taipei to
deal with the aftermath.
Two were killed and three others injured, one critically, as a falling
crane from a high-rise building under construction crushed the bus carrying the
mainland tourists at an upscale commercial district of Taipei.
The tourists were all from Dongguan City in coastal Guangdong Province.
Primary investigation showed the crane's fall was caused by overloading
coupled with strong winds.
Sources with Taiwan tourism organizations said the compensation for the
dead, who are all covered by insurance, could reach a maximum of 2 million New
Taiwan dollars (59,528 U.S. dollars) and 30,000 New Taiwan Dollars for the
injured.
A funeral hall has been set up in the Taipei Medical University Hospital
and a public mourning of the dead will be held, according to Syu.
