Two killed in accidents at Shanghai rail construction sites

SHANGHAI, Jan. 8 (Chinese media) -- Two people died here on

Thursday in two separate accidents at rail construction sites, local officials

said.

A crane driver died at 10:30 a.m. after the crane

overturned at the city's Line 9 urban rail, which is under construction, said an

official with the local work safety bureau.

Just an hour later, a fire broke out 20 meters

underground at a construction site on Line 11, killing one worker and injuring

six others, according to the fire brigade.

The fire was put out at about 1 p.m.. The injured

workers have been hospitalized.

Authorities are investigating the causes of the accidents.
