Tibet to fund 25 mln yuan per year for culture industry

LHASA, Feb. 9 (Chinese media) -- Beginning this year, the

Tibet Autonomous Regional government will allocate 25 million yuan (about 2.9

million U.S. dollars) a year to local culture development, an official said here

on Monday.

"Tibet has abundant culture. Our culture work should

include protection of the traditional culture and development of modern

culture," said Nyima Cering, director of the regional department of culture.

The governmental investment had been put into various

projects, including maintaining ancient buildings, development of Tibetan

language, protection of the ancient books and the establishment of performance

groups.

Folk bands, websites, novels, dramas and songs in

Tibetan language had been encouraged, Nyima Cering said.

A series of new cultural projects will be launched

and the commercial dramas will be continued in 2009, he said, adding that a new

history drama will be offered this year for the 50th anniversary of the

Democratic Reform in Tibet.



China makes great efforts in

protection of Tibetan culture




BEIJING, Feb. 6 -- China has made

significant achievements in protecting and spreading Tibet's magnificent

traditional ethnic culture, especially in terms of the successful preservation,

transmission and development of intangible cultural heritage.

"I'm glad to see great attention has been paid to the

protection of traditional ethnic culture," said 73-year-old Tseten Dorje, who

was recently designated as a national representative of intangible cultural

Tibetan Losar to apply for state

intangible cultural heritage




BEIJING, Feb. 6 -- A joint bid incorporating Traditional Tibetan Losar (Tibetan

New Year) celebrated in Lhasa, Xigaze and Nyingchi is to apply for national

intangible cultural heritages. If the proposal is approved, winter tourism in

Tibet will be further promoted.

Times, celebrations and concentions of Tibetan Losar vary

in those three prefectures in Tibet. It is said that the most orthodox and

indigenous Tibetan Losar is Lhasa's, while the other two being its variations.

Tibet completes census of ancient

books



BEIJING, Feb. 4 -- The Cultural Department of Tibet

Autonomous Region has finished the census of Tibetan classics pilot program.



A group responsible for the census work was set up in

October 2008, and has by far deployed work in the Tibet Museum and Norbu Lingka

and found both have a variety of Tibetan ancient books concerning Tibetan

medicine, architecture, biography of celebrities which are preserved intact. Full story
