3 Chinese crewmen die from lack of oxygen while heading for Bangladesh

DHAKA, Feb. 7 (Chinese media) -- Three Chinese crewmen died for lack of oxygen when their cargo was heading for Bangladesh's southeastern port Chittagong on Friday.

Ye Shengbing, who is representing the Hongkong company and dealing with the accident, told Chinese media by phone on Saturday the accident happened at around 14:00 Beijing time (0600 GMT) on Friday on Myanmar waters.

He said the three crewmen went into the cabin to remove the dirt water and were found dead at 14:15 (0615 GMT) Friday. "It is thought they died for lack of oxygen," he added.

Ye said the three crewmen are Tan Weifeng, 41, Zhou Liansheng, 27 and Xu Jiangbing, 37.

Ye said the cargo arrived at Chittagong, 264 km southeast of capital Dhaka, on Friday morning and the bodies of the three crewmen were sent to mortuary.

Ye said they already informed the relatives of the victims.

Chinese Embassy to Bangladesh Political Counselor Wang Yu told Chinese media Saturday they are assisting the relatives of the victims to go through the formalities to come to Bangladesh.
