Even though the master passed away, his spirit still

lives on today. People remember him in a variety of activities lasting three

days.

Except a three-day long international seminar on the

dramatist, a new adaptation of "Dragon's Beard Ditch," one of Lao She's

best-known dramas also takes to stage.

Family members of the late dramatist watched the

performance together Tuesday night following the ceremony.

Shu Yi, son of Lao She, praised actors' hard efforts

in the remake and spoke highly of the creative perspective in the portrayal of

human nature.

Dragon's Beard Ditch, or Long Xu Gou, tells the story

of how the government overhauled the stinky Dragon's Beard Ditch and punished

ruffians in the neighborhood after 1949. As a result, people's lives were

greatly improved.

The original play was written in 1951 by Lao She, one

of China most notable novelists and dramatists.
