Blast kills one, injures 16 at Shanghai construction site

SHANGHAI, Feb. 6 (Chinese media) -- At least one worker was killed and 16 others injured, two seriously, in an explosion Friday afternoon at a construction site here.

The accident happened at about noon at a liquefied natural gas (LNG) project site at the Yangshan Deep-water Port, an international shipping center about 45 km from the Pudong International Airport, according to a spokesman for the municipal work safety authority.

The explosion occurred when workers were adjusting equipment.

The LNG terminal, which is under construction, is expected to receive 3 million tonnes of LNG a year after the first phase becomes operational this year.
