LHASA, Nov. 18 (Chinese media) -- Victims' families have claimed the bodies of the deceased in a bus accident in Tibet. The driver, injured, is out on bail for treatment, a local government official said on Wednesday.
The bus, with 46 passengers and a driver onboard, ran off the road and plunged into a valley, about 90 meters deep on Friday. It was on its way from Pachen County to Nagqu Town, capital of Nagqu Prefecture.
It left 18 people, including a baby, dead and 29 others injured. Two of the injured were released from hospital on Tuesday. The others are in stable condition, said Gama Cedain, deputy commissioner of Nagqu Prefecture.
Police said the accident was caused by a fracture in the steel bracket connecting the front wheels and overloading as the bus was meant to hold only 36 passengers.
The driver, named Basang Toinzhub, suffered injuries on the head and arms. Though not badly wounded, he was in confused thought. Police allowed him to receive treatment on bail.
The bus belonged to Fada Transportation Company in the prefecture. People in charge of the company can not be reached for comment.
Nagqu Prefecture is more than 400 kilometers north of Lhasa.
